I Love Lucy

Some days I feel more like I am in an episode of I Love Lucy when all I really want to be is on Little House on the Prairie. Yesterday was one of those days. This will sound like I am complaining but honestly, this is just the way it was so take it for what it is.

Josie woke up yesterday morning at 3am. I went to try and plug her with the passy and then came back downstairs. If you know me well enough to hear about my knees....the nighttime is the worst and going up the stairs in the wee hours after no "warm up" is painful. If Kirk is awake he usually goes upstairs for me but he was super tired and had only been asleep for a few hours himself. This is another reason why Josie was in a crib in our room until she was 5 months old (avoidance of stairs in the middle of the night). So, the passy didn't work and she was hungry. Her and I fell asleep in the guest bed. She moves and kicks me in the back so that is fun.
Apparantly, the older girls got up and didn't know I was up there and went downstairs to wake up dad. Mind you, it is barely 6am at this point and still dark. My hubby doesn't wake me up out of being nice so I stumble downstairs when I hear people (7:30am). Breakfast has already been made for them and I have some cold left over eggs on the pan. I eat that and wonder what else should go with it since I found out I have a gluten allergy (no bread). I hate thinking about food this much. If I don't eat regularly as well, I get very shakey from low blood sugar.
After making lunches, eating breakfast and getting the kids dressed it is now 8:30 and the girls are supposed to be at school at 9 (and I still haven't showered). Kirk laughs and wonders how I am going to make it there on time. I laugh back and tell him to "watch me do it". Now, if it was just ME getting ready, I would be fine. Everyday I tend to forget how picky my girls are getting with their clothing choices, shoes, hair etc, etc. So, I am dressed and ready and Logan has decided what she wants to wear (which is in the laundry). I fish that out. Lilly then wants to match. I fish again. Logan wants her hair in a bun. A low bun at the nape of her neck with water on it to wet it down and keep it in place. I did it wrong, so I have to do it again (it wasn't low enough). Then her and Lilly want to stand on my tub to see themselves in the mirror and then go upstairs and show dad how they are so pretty (they are - but we are now late for school). I tell the girls to put their shoes on while I get Josie and put her in the car seat. Josie is awake with a dirty diaper and is now hungry....we are going to arrive even later to school. After that, I come downstairs only to discover Lilly has taken leaves and crushed them in her hands all over the floor. In this situation I really don't know what to do. I could scold her and pick it up myself later. I could also scold her and force her to pick it up now. I made her pick it up and throw it all away before we went to the car. While walking to the car I realize it is garbage day. Pack the kids in the car and go get the garbage and the can to wheel down. We finally make it to school.
I then head to the grocery store ($250 later and Kirk asked me what I got there). The road going home was blocked so I ventured a different way and ended up at a home goods store. I went there to return some drapes. I forgot the reciept. They don't accept returns without the receipt. Since I was there I looked around. $300 later I left. When I got home I realized everything needed to be returned. It either didn't fit or I got the wrong thing (table cloth instead of table runner etc). I hope I remember to keep the reciept and BRING it next time. This store is like 45 minutes away and I am tired of going there.
Get the kids, play and then start on dinner at 3:30. Dinner isn't eaten until 6:30pm. I made a new recipe and it took FOREVER. Lentil walnut burgers that didn't hold form to even put on a bun. Oh yeah, forgot to get buns at the store. So, Kirk and I had it over a salad and the girls ate the remaining bun. I was so tired of chopping and cooking and standing and failing at this meal that I didn't even want to eat it. Kirk talked me off the ledge and told me it was really good ( I had already thrown the recipe away and had to retrieve it from the garbage after he said that).
Messy kitchen and tired kids. Kirk and I decide one will make dessert and the other will put the kids to be and we will watch a movie. At 9:30pm we start the movie. The kids always pull me in when I put them to bed and I take forever getting them down. Kirk was helping me clean up dinner so I made the dessert. We were waiting on dessert to start the movie. Dessert was another "gluten free creation". It was supposed to be something like chocolate chip bars. They burned and would have tasted awful even if they weren't. Glad we waited so long for that. Kirk had raisin toast and I had icecream. We watched a very terrible movie with great scenary (Letters to Juliet). The best part was after that and the 15min rerun clip of The Office. That show is halarious.
So, I went to bed around 11:45pm. Kirk worked. Josie woke up around 1am hungry. Kirk came to bed around 1:45 and took her back upstairs. 5:30am she wakes up again and I go in there to "passy her up" and Lilly is in her room watching her in her crib. SERIOUSLY?! So, it is 7am and Lilly has been awake since 5:30. So that is how today is going to start.......
I am not complaining, I am just saying.......

Fall Highlights

• Hey! Haven't blogged for a long time...way overdue. I don't know how any of you that read my blog.....3 maybe 4 of you...can even sleep at night. The anticipation for the next post must be intoxicating. I won't keep you waiting.
• Fall is here. It is awesome. I love, love, love warm weather. Super hot 100 degrees is still okay with me....but not with kids. There is not much to do. It might as well be raining and cold since we can't really venture out. Alas...the cold weather is around the corner. Mind you- I HATE, HATE, HATE cold weather. I am just looking for something around 70 and staying there all the way through April. What state provides that?
  
• Logan and Lilly are in preschool 2 days a week from 9-1. It is a nice break for them and me. Although, it is not very long of a time once you drop them. I feel like I one "clean up" thing to do at home and go to one store or do a workout. It is nice quiet time with Josie too. My favorite thing about their school though is their memory verse reciting. It is so cute to hear them walk around the house as if I am not listening and saying Phillipians 4:13 - " I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me". Now... I know this verse but I don't think I could tell you exactly where it was in the bible. It has been my new challenge to learn these things with them.
• On that note, let it be out in the air that we are considering homeschooling Logan in the fall. WHAT?! Listen people- I have only committed to kindergarden - not 12th grade. We will see where this thing goes. We thought it would be nice to have one more year with Logan at home with Lilly and Josie before she is "off and running" as they say.
  
• Yesterday Logan told me she loved me sooooo much, too much really and that I am the best cook in the whole world. I was crushed when she said the same thing to Kirk tonight. I am jealous and competitive. Not a good combo.
• I know this blog should be called Logan, Lilly and Josie at blogspot...but I haven't gotten around to it. I will keep it how it is and HUNTER can just deal with it :)
• Josie rolled over on October 6th...one day after she turned 5 months. It doesn't seem like 5 months. She likes to grab at her toes and smile a lot. She rocks a pretty serious mowhawk too. The girls love her and try to include her. She was even given a turn at a memory matching game. I passed for her.
• Not a ton new going on here. Just enjoying life with 3 little ones and a super awesome hubby and bestfriend. Thankful for where we live, our family and our friends. Thankful that God is gracious, loving and patient with me when I am not with him or with others. Thankful for my health and the health of my children and husband. Thankful for what he does everyday and that he loves his work, God and family (not in that order:). Thankful that he can be around the house some as he works and partake in the chaos even if it means pretending to not hear it and letting me deal with it (and the mess associated).
  
• Here's to better sleep, more working out (any would be great), eating better, relaxing more and most importantly...enjoying quiet time with God and making the most of our opportunities to enjoy family and friends.
  

Summer Fun

• Seriously? USA lost to Ghana AGAIN in the World Cup! How dissapointing! On the same note - Lilly celebrates as if she scored a goal in the World Cup when she goes potty. She has been trained for about a month now after parental frustration of having 2 out of 3 kids in diapers.





• Josie enjoyed her first Cubs game in June...only 5 weeks old. She slept the whole time and sadly the Cubs lost to the White Sox but it was so fun and will not be her last game.




• Lilly knows exactly how to annoy Logan. When Logan gets mad she says "Oh, sorry Loges" (very casually and carelessly). She basically says "get over it".




• Big sisters have a lot of responsibilities: Logan wanted to read a book to the baby while she slept. She "read" her Where's Waldo. She also helps Lilly with her shoes. This was a fun chore for a while until Lilly expected it and now Logan declared that she was soooo tired of putting Lilly's shoes on for her.




• Lilly was told to clean up her mess in her play room. She told Kirk she was much too tired and just couldn't do it (she is still 2 by the way...drama has no age limitations).




• Logan told me yesterday she wished her face looked like Cinderella's face. What do you say to that? Frustrating that comparisons start at such a young age. She was also reading a fireman book and said that she liked the one with the mustache the best. She loves boys with mustaches she said....What?!



• I am taking the girls up to Chicago to visit family for a week. It will be a sad week without daddy and I know he will be wanting us home as well. The house is going to be way too quiet without us here! I am sure he will get some "honey do" chores done and work a lot but he would rather have our insanity around:).

Baby Josie is here!

• Josephine Kate Johnson blessed us with her prescence 2 weeks and 2 days early. She was 7lbs. 7oz and 20.5 inches long. She was born at 6:38pm on Cinco De Mayo 5-5-2010
  
  
• The girls are totally obsessed with her. Lilly will take her passy out of her mouth just so she can "be helpful" and put it back in. They alarm me whenever she makes a peep. "Mom she needs milk, Mom-she has a dirty diaper...change it! Logan sits behind her in the car and makes sure to notify me whenever she opens her eyes, sneezes...basically...whenever she does anything. They both are so happy when she opens her eyes since they are mostly closed.
  
  
• Josie is a really sweet and super sleepy baby! She loves to eat and then go back to sleep. I am very thankful for her current disposition- things always change with kids so I am happy for what we have today!
  
  She looks just like Lilly when she was born with a little favoring towards Logan in the face as well.

Thank God for warm weather

Yeah! Spring is here. Easter is here. Baby is almost here. So excited:)

Kirk and i went on a much needed "Baby Moon" to Orlando. Staying in the sun for 7 hrs a day and sleeping in until 10. Wow...I want to go back today.

We came back to a fun Easter with great weather and Grandma and Pops were in town. We all loved having them around and wish they lived closer.

The day they left I was bed ridden with the Stomach Flu. 40hrs in bed. With 6 weeks left in this pregnancy - it was miserable being so sick.

Logan said when she grows up she is going to be a soccer player and a Librarian. She said I can be her helper. "When dad gets to be into a big boy, he can help me get books at the library and be a good boy. Lilly can be our neighbor and help too". Glad she has it figured out at a young age.

We headed down to Destin for a week long vacation with the kids. It is so much fun watching them skip around all day long...so happy to be playing in the sand and dodging the water (at least Lilly). They couldn't be more different. We go out to eat and Logan goes for the pancakes and waffles while Lilly eats all the bacon and eggs and doesn't touch the sweet stuff. Logan loves jumping in the ocean and Lilly barely wants to get her feet wet. Lilly doesn't mind riding in the stroller and Logan thinks she now needs to walk everywhere and "be the leader". Logan was potty trained at 2 and Lilly still hides to go potty (knowing full well she can pee in the potty and just chooses not to). She actually says "go away" or "I can't do it" when you ask her to pee in the potty. One day I guess.
Lilly actually went potty twice on the potty while at the beach. You would think the reward of candy and lots and lots of praise would cause you to want to do it again but no.
Logan has been doing great at swimming and getting really confident. Overly actually. We walked to the pool and they both decided it would be a good idea to get in the pool without Kirk and I. Kirk got in and within seconds Lilly was under the water and Logan was on her way yelling "help!" Kirk dropped Logan and went for Lilly - forgetting that Logan can't really swim either. Not so scary in 3ft of water but Lilly knows better than to get in without us or floaties now.
Lilly constantly needs gum and asks for it all the time. She can also watch the same Dora episode over and over again. When mad at me she always says she wants daddy.

March Misc

• I want to have a sticker on my car that reads: "Your kid may be an honor student but my kid took a nap today!" Logan takes a nap once in a blue moon and man is it awesome to have that 1-2hr rest myself.


• So thankful for such awesome friends to share life with!


• It is a beautiful Sunday afternoon and I am not happy to be deep cleaning my freezer after a pop can was left in there and exploded (yes...I said Pop...that is how you say it in the north)


• Why I continue to give my kids lip gloss and chapstick in the car is beyond me. I always forget they have it and then I turn around to a scary faced greasy monster that I have to clean up.


• I can always resolve to eat better when I am pregnant but what is the point? I have the rest of my life to eat good. No matter what I do now, I will certainly get bigger. Might as well enjoy those Girl Scout Cookies after all!! Good..I just released myself from the guilt.


• Logan declared that mac-n-cheese cost $3,000 while at the grocery store. I thought it was yellow cheese and it is actually gold that I have been eating all these years.


• In discussing that God is a Spirit and that he doesn't have a body like other people, Logan boldy questioned, "Why doesn't God have a booty?" God has a good sense of humor to give me a kid like her. Sometimes I think she is the funniest person I know (and the most dramatic! ha)

Feb misc

• Think we finally decided on the name Josephine Kate for our new baby girl.lo 27 weeks now and with warmer days to enjoy the sun...I will be feeling great! Dreary cold days make me feel bored, overweight and pale!! Thankfully Spring is around the corner and the kids will get to do more outside activities instead of memorizing cartoons :)
• Love the little friends and cousin bday parties. I am dreading the day when they all go to different schools and talk about different friends that we don't know. Hope they will all stay buds even as they get older and "cooler" ha!


• Lilly and Logan always amaze me that they are so different. Logan will whine and complain if she isn't feeling well and the world will hear about it for days. Lilly just choses not to eat and coughs like she is dying. I will finally take her in to the Dr. and determine she has ear infections and pink eye. Love the coughing so much until you gag routine. How a parent can hear that all night and still roll over and sleep is amazing.


• Lilly is not motivated by sugar like Logan and I. However, I can tell her she can take a bath or wear princess jammies and she will pretty much do whatever I tell her.
  
  
• Kirk definately went bed at 7:30pm last night...just thought I would share that



• My idea to go to the park as a family and I fall asleep in the car after Kirk unloads them. It was a nice power nap. Only pregnancy can cause me to be that sleepy instantly (especially on a 65 degree February day on a Saturday).


• How can it be 70 degrees and then 2 days later be snowing?
• I love shoe shopping but buying a size 10 is not so fun!
